Water Underfloor Heating

Extensive research into the heating market has found that the demand for ‘wet systems’ has doubled in the last five years, with an increasing acceptance being found for them within the new build housing industry.

Water under floor heating is suitable for all types of property and easily linked into any heat source or system whether it be new or existing. Water under floor heating is not only a flexible heating solution, it is cost effective too. By heating the room from the floor level upwards, the boiler consumes less fuel, which in turn means lower running costs and less environmental damage.

Unlike radiators, under floor heating uses radiant heat rather than the traditional convected. This means that for the same comfort level the room air temperature can be around 2°C lower. A radiant system emits more heat as it warms the surfaces rather than the air around the surfaces. The warmer surfaces make you feel more comfortable whilst saving not only the environment, but money too.

We recommend you use a qualified installer when fitting the under floor system, although DIY is possible. If deciding to install the system yourself, make sure that the under floor heating system supplied comes with complete with detailed and commissioning instructions for fitting the system together. Your installation, should also be supported by technical knowledge from your supplier and contractor.

When installing the under floor heating make sure that you ask your contractor if your chosen system is:

  • Compatible with all types of floor finish and construction
  • Easily combined with radiators and towel rails
  • Suitable for all types of boiler
  • Simply linked to commercial BMS systems
  • Compatible with eco energy sources such as Solar and Geothermal

The installation time of under floor heating is a third of that needed for a radiator system and its simplicity means that there is a less skill required. All tools your contractor uses should be available from an ordinary plumber’s merchant and should be familiar to your contractor.
